ZRP Officer cries in court as she got convicted
There was drama at the Mbare Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday last week when a police officer convicted of assault ran amok in court. Babra Chipatiso (28) went out of control when Mbare magistrate Mr Stanford Mambanje declared her guilty.
Chipatiso, who is stationed at Avondale Police Station in Harare, wailed uncontrollably, while refusing to leave the courtroom.
Prison officers had a difficult time trying to get Chipatiso to move and ended up cuffing her hands and legs. They then lifted her into a vehicle as she refused to walk.Chipatiso was found guilty of assaulting a community service officer at Mbare Magistrates’ Court in November this year.
Following the drama, Mr Mambanje ordered Chipatiso to be examined by two doctors to determine her mental state.
Mr Mambanje deferred the matter to today for sentence.Allegations are that Chipatiso throttled a community service officer Shingirai Matavire following a misunderstanding over community service records of an ex-convict, Solomon Mombeshora, who was convicted of culpable homicide in 2011.
Matavire’s supervisor told Chipatiso that the records she was looking for had been taken to the Harare Magistrates’ Court by the director of community service.
Chipatiso started shouting at Matavire’s supervisor accusing her of defeating the course of justice and detained Matavire’s supervisor preventing her from going to lunch.
When Matavire tried to intervene, Chipatiso throttled her.
