Two Malawians trying to smuggle Mbanje worth $1m , get arrested at Forbes Border Post

TWO Malawian nationals intercepted at Forbes Border Post while carrying dagga with a street value of almost $1 million have been remanded in custody by Mutare magistrate Sekai Chiundura.

Alfred Manjakawana (37), a truck driver with South African-based company Zarren Transport, and Francis Sefu (29) pleaded not guilty to unlawful possession or use of the dangerous drug as defined in Section (157) (1)(a) of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act Chapter 9:23.

They were remanded to May 13 for trial. Prosecutor Fletcher Karombe told the court that on April 28, 2016, police detectives in Mutare received a tip-off that there was a haulage truck en route to South Africa at Mutare Dry Depot suspected to be carrying dagga. The detectives swiftly reacted to the information and found the truck undergoing physical import clearance processes by the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (Zimra) officials.

The duo indicated that they were carrying 1 200 bags of wheat bran from Malawi to South Africa. But their luck ran out during check process by Zimra as 38 bags of dagga were found underneath the wheat bags.
