Harare Lawyer in the dock for raping sister in law
Harare lawyer,Jeremiah Bamu, has appeared in court facing allegations of raping his sister-in-law after she had visited him at his Milton Park residence. Bamu,32,was not asked to plead to the charges when he initially appeared before Harare magistrate Vongai Muchuchuti last Saturday.
State counsel,Sabastian Mutizirwa, alleges that on March 20 at around 8am,the victim visited her sister at her Milton Park residence. It is said that at around that time,Bamu reportedly left his house saying he was attending a church service.
The court heard that Bamu’s wife and their children also followed leaving her sister at the house alone. Further allegations are that Bamu returned to his house at around 9:45am. Prosecutor Mutizirwa also had it that the 20-year-old asked a phone charger from Bamu, who reportedly asked her to follow him to his bedroom.
It is said that Bamu did not give his sister-in-law the charger she was looking for and she decided to leave his bedroom. But Bamu allegedly blocked her way, grabbed and forcibly lifted her before placing her on the bed.
He allegedly started kissing her. It is alleged that Bamu forcibly undressed the victim and raped her.She took the matter to the police leading to Bamu’s arrest. He has since been granted bail at High Court.
