Joy riding Bulawayo gardener crashes employers car
A Bulawayo domestic worker who stole his employer's car to go on a joyride with his girlfriend, crashed into another car as he attempted to park it in the garage upon his return.
The unlicenced Smart Ndlovu's joyride would never have been discovered had it not been for the freak accident. Ndlovu's employer, James Kinnard took his family to Botswana and instructed Ndlovu to look after the house. It is reported Ndlovu, who was staying at the cottage, was not given keys to the main house. It is alleged that during the absence of his employer, Ndlovu using duplicate keys, gained entry into the house and proceeded to the bedroom where he took car keys and cash amounting to $400 which was in one of the jackets.
After stealing the money he took it to the cottage and placed it under his one plate stove before driving off in one of his employer's cars to his girlfriend's house.
Ndlovu, after the fruitful escapade went and dropped his girlfriend before driving back home. When he was parking the vehicle he bumped into another car which was also parked in the garage. The matter was discovered by his employer's wife when they returned from Botswana and when Ndlovu was asked about the matter he ran way.
Ndlovu's employer, who discovered that the money which he had left in his jacket was missing went to the cottage, conducted a search and found it hidden under Ndlovu's stove. The matter was reported to the police leading to the arrest of Ndlovu. After his arrest it was later discovered that he also stole his employer's $4 200 which was hidden in a trunk.
Ndlovu for the offence, was dragged before Bulawayo provincial magistrate, Mrs Learnmore Mapiye. He was charged with unlawful entry and theft, unlawful borrowing or use of property and malicious damage to property. He was not formally charged and was remanded in custody to 21 December.
