Armed robbers raid money transfer agency, get away with $18 000

Robbers pounced at a money transfer agency in Bulawayo and got away with about $18 000 cash.

The two robbers hit Pacific Money Transfer Agency at corner 6th Avenue and Josiah Tongogara Street last Thursday afternoon and got away with $12 000 and R65 000 cash, a lap top and three cell phones belonging to the agency's workers.
The agency's manager, Mr Jogee Mohammedsaid yesterday that they were still shocked by the incident.

"They stormed our offices and pointed a gun at the cashier Ms Coleen Benturas. They ordered us to lie face down on the floor and demanded money. My son who walked in during the raid, was also forced to lie down. They kicked me on the ribs before they fled.

"It's a good thing that we have security cameras. Hopefully that will assist the police in their investigations," he said.

Ms Benturas said the two men could have been in their early 30s.

"The other robber's face is still vivid in my mind. When I felt the cold metal on my head, I thought that was the end of my life," she said.

Bulawayo Police Provincial spokesperson Insp Mandlenkosi Moyo could not be reached for comment.

On Sunday last week, five armed robbers hit a Total petrol station along 12th Avenue and got away with about $2 000.
