Chitungwiza Father acquitted of assaulting daughters boyfriend

Chitungwiza magistrate Mr Lazarus Murendo yesterday acquitted a man who was arrested for assaulting his daughter’s boyfriend.

Lawrence Kasinganeti of 9239 Unit K was arraigned before the courts with Gabriel Tandi, Charles Mutake Zvikomborero Tandi facing charges of assault, kidnapping and theft.

The quartet was, however, acquitted on all three counts. It emerged that the complainant, Dylan Simbarashe, of 20595 Unit B had hatched a plan with Kasinganeti’s daughter to be intimate when she was
expected to be bathing in the family bathroom.

The two were, however, caught when the girl’s mother heard that her daughter was in the bathroom with a man. Kasinganeti’s wife called for help when the two bolted out of the toilet but Simbarashe was apprehended and assaulted by an angry mob in the suburb.

Simbarashe reported the assault to the police leading to Kasinganeti’s arrest. However, Mr Murendo noted that after being caught and assaulted by the mob, Simabarashe implicated the four to escape his case.

“The evidence given in this court by the complainant Simbarashe was exaggerated since it lacked coherence,” he said.

“The State failed to prove its case against the four and benefit of doubt is hereby afforded to them and are found not guilty and acquitted.”

It was the State’s case against Kasinganeti and the others that on February 15, and at around 7pm, Simbarashe was waiting for his girlfriend outside the bathroom while she took a bath.

He was apprehended by Tandi, Mutake and Zvikomborero. The State’s case led by prosecutor Mr Lovet Muringwa was dismissed after a full trial.
