South African celebrity DJ Sbu on Wednesday posted a photo of his ballot paper on Facebook.
Posting as DJ Sbu Online, the accompanying text read: “#Provincial I also voted for the ONLY movement with enough capacity to take this country forward. #VivaANC”.

The photo clearly shows the provincial ballot paper and his ‘X’ next to the ANC.

It is an offence to take and/or publish photographs which reveal a person's vote on a ballot paper, said the Independent Electoral Commission.

“Upon conviction, offenders will be liable to a fine or a term of imprisonment not exceeding one year," said IEC spokeswoman Kate Bapela on Sunday.

"Voters may take photographs of themselves outside the voting station and of their inked thumbs to show their participation."

DJ Sbu has ignored several comments asking him to remove the photo as it is illegal, and many fans have uploaded photos of their own ballot papers in support.

AT LEAST 63 people have died in Kenya this week and dozens more are sick after consuming toxic alcohol, police and hospitals said Wednesday.

"So far, we have 63 dead," police spokesman Masood Mwinyi told AFP. Hospital sources said dozens more were receiving treatment.

"What we are trying to establish is the origin of this brew. Investigations are under way and samples will be taken to ascertain where and how it was prepared," said police spokeswoman, Zipporah Mboroki.

The towns worst affected are close to the capital Nairobi and elsewhere in the centre and the east of the country. In some areas the alcohol was bought from licensed bars and in others it was sold on the street in the slums, officials said.

Deaths from toxic alcohol are relatively common in Kenya, with similar cases making the headlines every year.

61-year-old Nkosinati Teko of Port Elizabeth's KwaZakhele says that a mystery snake eats his cash.

He said: "Over the past five years this snake from hell has stolen R120 000 from me."

Teko got the creature from a bogus traditional healer when he was fired by the company where he worked for 17 years.

His pension was paid to the wrong person. He then saw another traditional healer's advert to increase money, helped by ancestors.

Teko said they argued over the fee.

So the traditional healer returned R50 and the Teko put it on top of the R500 under his bed.

"I was amazed to find my R500 increased to R800. But when I woke up on Sunday last week it was gone.

"The snake asked me why I consult foreign sangomas. They have a tracing instrument on me and have followed me since 1970.

"It comes as if it smells my cash," said Teko. "I've tried many specialists but their muthi doesn't help. This evil creature told me it wants half my pension."

Teko's girlfriend Nozuko Simo (40) said: "This snake eats his money." She said the cash went missing even though doors were locked and windows closed.

Warrant Officer Thembi Gwe said: "He can contact cops if the snake is visible."

Prophet Vusi Vazi said: "I will visit him. The snake will go and won't come back."

A true life story of vampires is playing itself out in Gaborone, after a teacher at Mogoditshane Senior Secondary School recently caught two students on a human blood drinking mission.

The two students were caught squeezing out their own blood into containers before they drank it. Following the mind boggling scene, the school management took the two students to a local customary court where they were whipped.

Following the revelations Mogoditshane deputy Customary Court president Keabetswe Dihutso says they are forming committees that will be addressing students’ problems in all junior community schools whose students are admitted at Mogoditshane Senior Secondary School. He told The Monitor on Friday that they are worried by elements of Satanism that seem to be starting at Mogoditshane Senior School.

Dihutso said they heard the case recently, which forced them to convene a meeting with parents on how they can help.

“This incident has really shocked us as the leaders of Mogoditshane. The incident is the first of its kind to be reported in our Customary Court. Though we had given each student two strokes on the buttocks, we felt we should investigate the issue deeply,” he said.

Dihutso said each junior community school in Gabane, Kopong, Metsimotlhabe and Mmopane will have a committee to deal with any challenges or problems that the school is facing.

He said they will also advise students and involve them so that they can be open to them when they have a problem.

He further requested parents to talk to their children about any challenges they are facing or temptation they are going through.

“The other problem is that some parents seem not to be doing enough to guide their children because students normally change behaviour at senior school. We do not know whether is because of the new environment or not,” he said.

He said the other report that Mogoditshane School head cries about is that students had cut the school fence on the hostels’ side so that they can escape at night.

Efforts by The Monitor to try to get comment from Mogoditshane Senior School Head Motlhageng was not successful.

Mamelodi Sundowns striker Khama Billiat is allegedly embroiled in yet another scandal involving women.

His alleged mistress Malibongwe Gumede, claims she gave him an ultimatum to either leave his Zimbabwean wife Esnath Munyedawo who shares his Midrand house with him – or kiss her goodbye.

Malibongwe, who once reportedly dated Katlego Mphela and Benni McCarthy, says she is tired of being in second place.

Malibongwe hates the fact that he takes no time for her as he is always with his wife.

The mistresses' close said, "Mali has had enough of his player tendencies and wants more. She wants him to choose between his baby mama and her. But it's hard for him to decide."

Malibongwe said, "we took a break because he has issues he needs to sort out."

She also said that Khama might be married but "when you are in situations like that you must make sacrifices".

The close friend also said, "he calls her everyday and makes time for her. But it's not enough for the girl. She wants him all to herself."

Another friend reportedly said Malibongwe wants 'Khama's baby mama to use a heater this winter while she enjoys his natural heat in bed.'

"He can't resist her charms and seems to be falling for her tricks," said the friend.

According to Daily News, last November, the married footballer was the centre of controversy when dancer Beverly "Bev" Sibanda claimed on national radio that she was seeing him.

Right now he is the centre of controversy as he is reported by South African newspaper, Sunday Sun that his house is now a "slaughterhouse".

Later on it was claimed that Billiat and his teammate Bongani Zungu had set up a "love nest" where they took girls for sex.

Sources claimed that the love nest was at Billiat's house in Midrand and was for the exclusive use of the Mamelodi Sundowns players.

They claimed that Billiat and Zungu brought different women to the house every day.

At the time Malibongwe told Sunday Sun that she nearly became a victim of the so called 'slaughterhouse.'

"I've got so many messages from Khama inviting me to his house. But I refused, I was warned of how he brings women to his house for sex," she reportedly said.

When approached for comment at the time, Ado Adams who said she was Khama's girlfriend told Sunday News: "I and Khama are dating and we have a baby boy together. But I didn't know he had a wife because I usually see him at his house in Midrand.

"I have been warned that there are girls who also claim to be his girlfriends. But I don't know about him running a slaughterhouse."

Khama refuted those claims saying: "I know Ado Adams and we met in Cape Town. She goes around telling people that we are dating but it's not true. I only spent a night in Cape Town. I nearly fought with my wife because of her."

A Botswana based cult leader has vowed to destroy Nigerian TB Joshua after he boasted that the SCOAN leader failed to exorcise demons from him

Prophet T.B. Joshua

“In our religion, we worship the beast and I am the beast. I am the god. I control life and death. Even your lives are in my hand,” youthful Letsoseng ‘Zakes’ Kedumetse, told The Monitor Correspondent when denying reports that he is a Satanist and the leader of an alleged religious cult that is sending shivers down the spines of Maun residents.

Some residents have labelled the group that worships at the caves behind the Maun General Hospital as Satanists. Though Kedumetse is alleged to be the leader of the group, he denies it.

He says he is not a Satanist, contrary to what people say. He says his religion is called Revolution, not Satanism. Kedumetse explains that Revolution is a new religion that has followers in Maun and the United States.

“I only have three followers in Maun and the rest are in the United States. I communicate with them in spirit,” he explained. He denied that none of the 14 youth recently arrested at the caves are his followers. He said in ‘Revolution’ they only go to the caves at night to pray.

“All those arrested are delinquents who are up to no good. They do wicked things like drinking alcohol,” he said. He asserted that Revolution strives to unify all religions to form one religion.

The 19 year-old Kedumetse said a Maun pastor took him to TB Joshua of the Synagogue of All Nations Church in Nigeria to be delivered from evil spirits but the mission failed because of his (Kedumetse) powers.

“TB Joshua failed to deliver me because I have greater powers than him. Even before meeting him in person, I knew him in spirit. He is a prophet of doom that I am out to destroy and he knows it,” he said.

Arthur Madebe

A 13-YEAR-OLD girl was allegedly raped by four touts in kombis at Basch Street bus terminus, also called Egodini, on several occasions.
Arthur Madebe, 18, who was dragged to court yesterday facing charges of having sex with a minor, made the shocking revelation before a Bulawayo magistrate.

The court heard how on a date unknown but sometime in March this year, Madebe, a tout and the girl met at Egodini. The driver parked his kombi and left the two alone. The two then had sexual intercourse once.

The matter came to light after the girl’s uncle, also a kombi tout, informed the girl’s mother of the relationship, leading to Madebe’s arrest.

In his defence, Madebe told the court that the girl had on several occasions slept with four other touts in different kombis on several occasions. He narrated how the girl had been caught on several occasions with other touts.

“Like I said before, your daughter cannot turn down proposals made by other men. She has been caught on several occasions in different kombis having sexual intercourse.

“She was caught with Moses, Bhawu, Vusa, Nqobile and several other men long before she and I became emotionally involved. Even her uncle once caught her sleeping with a tout. You can even ask him if I am lying or not,” said Madebe.

He said he was in a relationship with the girl but did not have sex with her.

The girl’s mother however, poured cold water on Madebe’s revelations.

“I have seen several touts at Egodini and there is no way they can see a small child as a full grown woman. My child told me that you are her boyfriend and that you had sexual intercourse with her. The doctor’s note also proves that she is no longer a virgin,” said the girl’s mother.

Madebe was remanded out of custody and his trial continues today.

ABOUT four cases of food poisoning have been recorded at the National University of Science and Technology (Nust) where many students buy home-cooked food from vendors operating at an open space outside the institution’s main gate.On a daily basis, scores of Nust students are seen outside the institution queuing at different points to buy food.

The food on offer includes rice and chicken, rice and beef stew, sadza and beef stew and sadza and chicken all priced at $1 a plate. Prices range from $1 to $1,50 at Nust’s canteen, but the portions are smaller.

Nust Student Representative Council president Lucky Muza yesterday said a health crisis was looming at the institution as they have already received cases of suspected food poisoning.

“We have received about three to four cases of food poisoning and I suspect the numbers could be even more as not everyone reports their case,” he said.

Muza said students were in danger as they compromised quality for quantity.

He said the sprouting of unlicensed food outlets may be a result of the absence of a reliable shopping mall within Nust premises.

“Nust is doing its best in its limitations but the government has a mandate to prioritise completion of the construction of the university,” said Muza.

He appealed to council to take action against those selling the food.

Nust’s director of information and public relations Felix Moyo said the city council was the best to comment on the issue.
He added that the institution had no jurisdiction over anything that happens outside their premises.

The city’s Mayor Councillor Martin Moyo said council did not know about the issue and it will carry out investigations.

“No one is allowed to operate a food outlet without a licence because their premises should be inspected before a licence is awarded. Otherwise, thanks for the information we will investigate and take appropriate action,” he said.

A Chronicle news crew yesterday managed to talk to some of the students who buy their food from the open area and they defended themselves and the food outlets.

“The food is cheaper, better cooked than that sold in the canteens inside campus. It is worth the risk,” said a student, Don Ndlovu.
One of the vendors dismissed the health scare and added that if there were any risks students would not be buying for their food.

“If there are any health concerns the students are free to go buy food from the canteens inside the school. We are not forcing them to buy,” said the vendor.

Another vendor who identified herself as MaMoyo said she brings her food all the way from Entumbane in 20 litre buckets.

A HARARE maid who stole US$700,000 in cash from her employer has told a court that she is unable to pay back the money.
Euna Tsekwete, 32, of Shamva, was last week found guilty of theft and will be sentenced on Friday. Her two alleged accomplices, Rebecca Kawe, 28, and Sheila Nyandoro, 30, were cleared of the charges after Harare magistrate, Temba Kuwanda ruled that evidence produced in court did not incriminate them.
Yesterday, Tsekwete told the court that she could not resist the temptation to steal after stumbling upon the fortune stored away in a kitchen drawer while cleaning Jamil Farogh’s Belvedere house.
Speaking through her lawyer, Nicholas Chikono, Tsekwete pleaded poverty — revealing that she had blown most of the money from “her share”.

When she was arrested, she had bought two houses in Shamva, a Mazda 323 and had $8,500 cash.
She said: “I was employed as a house maid earning a meagre U$200 and could not resist the sudden temptation when I stumbled upon the US$700,000. I thought since I was working for a rich man, if I took a portion of the wealth he might not feel the pinch.”
Her lawyer added: “A convict should not suffer in order to scare other would-be offenders. The convict is a first offender who should be spared the wrath of incarceration.” But prosecutor Michael Reza asked the magistrate to impose a deterrent sentence in order to send the right message to would-be offenders.
“The fact that she’s a first offender does not hold any water as she started her career at the deep end. The offence involves a huge amount of money and a non-custodial sentence would set a bad precedence,” he said.
Reza alleged that Tsekwete stumbled upon the cash which Farogh left in one of the drawers in the kitchen while travelling to Gweru.
Tsekwete allegedly approached Kawe and Nyandoro and informed them about the money before they connived to steal it.

MDC-T leader Morgan Tsvangirai and his secretary general, Tendai Biti’s factions are headed for a nasty legal battle over the control of the party’s assets. The assets, which include offices and vehicles, are believed to be registered in the name of a company in which Biti is a director, amid indications that they were registered under the latter’s company.

It is understood that about 50 MDC-T vehicles and more than 10 offices countrywide were registered under Laphonic Enterprises, whose directors are Biti, Elton Mangoma and coordinator for policy and research, Fortune Gwaze.

The trio belongs to one faction and their faction controls party accounts. A source in the one of the factions claimed the three were also shareholders in the company that the MDC-T formed to act as conduit to receive money from sponsors and to conceal some of its assets.

Both camps are already embroiled in a nasty confrontation with Biti’s camp suspending Tsvangirai and his camp with the latter turning the tables and expelling the former finance minister and his group.

Consequently, the two factions are fighting over the control of party assets across the country with some of them having been arrested on charges of unlawful entry for allegedly breaking into the party’s offices and stealing various items.

Legal practitioners say only the courts can determine who should be in custody of the assets.

“Biti’s camp have all the party assets except five vehicles that are parked at Tsvangirai’s house,” said a source. “All the assets are registered under Laphonic Enterprises except Harvest House (party headquarters) that is registered under Harvest House Pvt Ltd that is owned by Ian Makone and Reverend Tim Neil. That’s the only building that Tsvangirai’s camp has control over.

“Biti’s camp has all the party offices across the country because we’ve offices in each of the party’s 12 provinces as well as about four vehicles in each province because they were all registered under Laphonic Enterprises. MDC-Renewal Team will be reclaiming some of the properties that are still under Tsvangirai very soon.”

Dr Tapiwa Mashakada, who is the acting secretary-general in Tsvangirai’s camp, acknowledged that both party movable and immovable assets were registered under Laphonic Enterprises that Biti and company control.

“Those are MDC assets and those who opened the company that you’re talking about were acting to further the interests of the MDC,” he said.

“We don’t foresee any legal battles and if they want to claim that they own the property, then that’ll be fraud. Everyone knows that those are party assets and if anyone wants to claim that they own them then that will be fraud and will be treated as such.”

But the spokesperson for Biti’s faction, Jacob Mafume, said Tsvangirai and his lieutenants had no right to take custody of any of the party’s assets because he was suspended.

“They’re suspended, so they shouldn’t worry about the assets. First they must fight their suspension and if they’re successful, then they will come back and find the assets on site.

“They’re illegally holding onto some of our properties which is a futile exercise. If they’ve a problem they can seek redress wherever they want. They’ve been duly suspended so they’ve nothing to do with the party assets.

“In fact to us, the greatest assets of the party are the people and we’re more concerned with their welfare.”

He could neither confirm nor deny if the trio were shareholders in Laphonic Enterprises adding that the assets were held in terms of the MDC constitution.

Legal experts said either of the two formations would have to approach the courts to claim ownership of the properties.

University of Zimbabwe law lecturer, Professor Lovemore Madhuku, said the courts were the only institution that could resolve the dispute.

“Each one of them remains in possession of assets they have now. But if anyone wants to take assets that the other party has, then they can only do so if they go through the courts,” Madhuku said.

“There’s no way they can escape the courts to determine who should have the assets. The Tsvangirai camp will have to prove in court that when those people registered those assets under that company they were doing so representing the MDC because the challenge is that Biti and his team may deny that they were representing anyone. Then that will be the end of the matter.”

Lawyer Jonathan Samkange said since there was a dispute over both camps’ status in the party, the wrangle could only be resolved in court.

“The only way to avoid going to court is by approaching the Speaker of the National Assembly through the leader of the Opposition in Parliament, Thokozani Khupe, and say these people are not in our party anymore and prove that indeed members of the national council who attended Biti’s meeting didn’t meet the quorum while theirs did,” Samkange said.

“In that case, the Speaker will then say in light of this, I recognise the other faction. With that, the recognised faction will then take back assets from the other.”

Samkange said in that scenario, the aggrieved party would then approach the courts.

He said Tsvangirai’s faction could still claim the assets because Biti and his co-directors were acting on behalf of the party.

Terrence Hussein of Hussein, Ranchod and Company law firm, said those who hold Laphonic Enterprises share certificates between the two factions could claim ownership of the properties.

“Company assets belong to the company. Those who own the shares nominate directors. The question now is who holds the shares between the two camps? If Biti’s camp holds the shares, then Tsvangirai’s camp is in trouble and if Tsvangirai’s camp holds them then Biti’s camp is in trouble,” he said.

“In the meantime, until the next extra-ordinary meeting or annual general meeting, directors of the company will have control of the assets,” said Hussein.

National Assembly Speaker, Cde Jacob Mudenda, yesterday told Star FM radio that he received letters from both Tsvangirai’s faction and that of Biti. He said he was studying both letters before making a determination on the matter.

A 54year old grandmother Sukuratu Salami was yesterday May 5th paraded by the Lagos state police command alongside her accomplices, for her involvement in ritual killings and human parts sales.

In her confessional statement, Madam Sukuratu said she sold human heads for N20,000 to willing buyers and that greed made her go into the business.

"A herbalist approached me last year and demanded for human parts. When he told me how much they buy the parts, I was tempted. I approached one Tantoloun, who works in a grave yard. He sold a skull for  $60  and I sold it in return for $125 . Greed made me to continue until I was arrested. I buy pieces of bones for $12, liver and intestines for $6 each and resell for $30  or more depending on the buyer’s bargaining power. I am not a killer. I have never killed anyone. I only request for decomposed human parts. I needed the money to feed my 3 children aged 30, 27 and 23. Those who patronize me are herbalists and trado-medical practitioners. The parts are used to prepare concoction for sick children. So far, I have only sold 10 human skulls.” she said.

Paraded with her was a cemetery worker, Rasheed Tantoloun and two others who were arrested by men of the Lagos state Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, in Joju area of Sango Ota, in possession of human head, intestines, bones, kidney and other human parts.

Rasheed in his statement said whenever his boss told him to dig up old gaves to make way for new burials, he would exhume this bodies and then sell them with the help of one Ibrahim whom he hired

"Anytime old corpses are exhumed, we usually collect the parts and sell to ready buyers who are usually agbo sellers (herbs dealers). My salary is $30 a month but since I started doing the business, I made three times more than the amount. We also dug corpses buried without caskets" he said

His accomplice, Ibrahim Waheed who says he is an Arabic teacher said he was paid $20 for exhuming dead bodies. In his statement, he said “we usually tamper with dead bodies buried without caskets and those whose relatives never showed up after burial. My job is to exhume and dismember the bodies and at the end of which I would be paid $20 ".

According to the state Police Commissioner, Umar Tanko, luck however ran out on them when men of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS got wind of their illicit business and decided to pose as prospective buyers

"Detectives led by the SARS commander, Abba Kyari, posed as buyers and bought a human head from Salami at $745 . After arresting the suspects, Salami’s house was searched during which a human head, liver, intestines and other parts were found. We picked interest in this case because of the disappearances of people. With their arrest, we hope that we’ll get to the root of these disappearances. We discovered that most of these bodies are fresh. It is criminal to deal in human parts. A few weeks back, Soka Forest was discovered in Ibadan. As you can see, this crime happens all over" he said.

THE Chinese government is ready to provide a package to fund the Zimbabwe Agenda for Sustainable Socio-Economic Transformation (Zim-Asset), the economic blueprint to steer economic revival over the next four years.Funding has been a major hindrance to the implementation of the progressive policy that was crafted to achieve sustainable development and social equity anchored on indigenisation, empowerment and employment creation propelled by the judicious exploitation of the country’s abundant human and natural resources.
Chinese Ambassador to Zimbabwe Mr Lin Lin yesterday said discussions were underway between Harare and Beijing on the provision of a financial package to fund  Zim-Asset.
Zimbabwe needs at least US$10 billion to successfully implement the economic blueprint spanning over five years, 2013 to 2018.
Ambassador Lin said his country was ready to provide lines of credit to that effect and the Chinese embassy in Harare was also facilitating a State visit by President Mugabe to China during the second half of this year.
If the discussions succeed, Zimbabwe would securitise the loan using its vast mineral resources.
Ambassador Lin was responding to questions from stakeholders attending a two day conference organised by the Sapes Trust in Harare on the democratisation process and reinforcing re-engagement with the international community.
“My Government is committed to give our support to Zimbabwe’s economic recovery,” said Ambassador Lin. “What I can say now is that the two sides are carrying out discussions on lines of credit provided by Chinese financial institutions as proposed by Zimbabwean side using your minerals as kind of security.
“We are looking forward to reach a kind of an agreement on that issue and I hope sometime this year.”
Ambassador Lin reiterated his country’s commitment to its bilateral relationship with Zimbabwe.
He said the omission of Zimbabwe on the itenary of Chinese Prime Minister Li Keqiang who is on a four nation tour of Africa, did not mean that relations between the two countries were not sound.
In any case, Ambassador Lin said, the Chinese embassy in Harare was planning a State visit by President Mugabe to China this year.
“I have to say the Chinese leaders have very busy schedules so we could not go for all the 54 African countries on a single trip….
“We are trying to make arrangement for President Mugabe to visit China sometime in the second half of this year so normally we do not have upcoming visits and outgoing visits in the same year.
“There is a possibility for a Chinese leader to pay a visit to Zimbabwe next year or the year after as a return visit to Zimbabwe.”
Ambassador Lin said China did not meddle in the affairs of other countries and respected choices made by other countries when it came to leadership.
He was responding to a question that he was being pushed for him to comment on the leadership renewal in China visa vis the re-election of President Mugabe last year as the Head of State in last year’s elections.
Also contributing at the same forum was the French ambassador to Zimbabwe Laurent Delahousse who denied the existence of the illegal sanctions imposed on the country by the European Union.
He said Zimbabwe should move towards a culture of accountability before blaming the sanctions.
Ambassador Delahousse said Zimbabweans should deal with sanctions they had imposed on themselves first.
He said Zimbabwe should deal with its country risk for it to attract Foreign Direct Investment.
“Stop blaming it on sanctions,” he said. “Sanctions have very small effect on the economy… Move to a culture of accountability. When something goes wrong in the country it is not because of sanctions. When elephants are poisoned at Hwange is it because of sanctions?” he asked.
He said corruption and lack of clarity on the implementation of the indigenisation policy was not the best way of attracting Foreign Direct Investment.
Other ambassadors that attended the dialogue are; Marcia Maro da Silva (Brazil), Vusi Mavimbela (South Africa), Sergy Bakharev (Russia) and Aldo Dell Ariccia (EU).

IN HAPPIER TIMES . . . Sungura ace Alick Macheso and his estranged wife Tafadzwa Mapako

Alick Macheso’s estranged second wife Tafadzwa Mapako on Monday rejected the musician’s temporary maintenance offer saying the musician’s proposal does not conform with the lifestyle he introduced to her and the children.
Through her lawyer David Ngwerume, Mapako wrote to Macheso rejecting the proposal that he had tabled as a temporary arrangement pending paternity tests.

“Following your letter dated Wednesday April 23, our client instructs us that she is not accepting your interim maintenance proposal as it does not meet the needs thereof.

The proposal is a fallacy as it does not conform with the lifestyle that your client introduced (to) her and the children and that the negotiations are not yielding anything towards settlement,” reads the letter.

Macheso had offered Tafadzwa $200 per week, $350 per month for rentals and $100 for medicals.

Macheso’s lawyer Norman Mugiya of Mugiya and Macharaga said his client was willing to keep the children only if he makes sure they belong to him.

“The position of my client is clear that if the children belong to him he will take care of them but now these people are not coming for the DNA tests,” said Mugiya.

He added that they were taking action on Tafadzwa’s refusal to act according to their agreement.

“We have agreed that the two children must go to DNA tests and she is failing to do so.

“I think there is need for us to take action because she is evasive,” said Mugiya.

Macheso and Mapako’s marriage collapsed amid serious counter-accusations between the two.

They intended to reach an out-of-court settlement which is failing to materialise.

Freshlyground

Zimbabweans support Government’s decision to deport South African group Freshlyground that was billed to perform at the closing ceremony of the Harare International Festival of the Arts on Sunday. The group failed to secure visas and temporary employment permits to allow them to work in the country.

However, the band on its Facebook page claimed that Hifa organisers and themselves had followed all requisite permit requirements and “indication prior to this was that the band would be allowed to perform in the country. It would seem the powers that be have yet to find a sense of humour,” wrote the group.

The post drew fire from Zimbabweans who lauded the Immigration Department for sending the group back to South Africa on Sunday.
In 2010 the group released the song “Chicken to Change” with the video denigrating President Mugabe as a dictatorial caricature and urging him to “chinja” in an apparent reference to the opposition MDC-T slogan.

Mr Munya Chikwanda Mike said: “You know why you were denied entry. You do not sing funny, degrading songs especially about the leadership here! We will treat you like politicians if you behave like them”.

Ms Vimbai Precious Tawengwa said: “A lot more people in Zimbabwe love Robert Mugabe and therefore singing about him in an insulting manner rubbed a lot of Zimbabweans up the wrong way.

“Dead or alive, the majority of Zimbabwe are pro-Robert Mugabe and the elections spoke as much, just like how the majority of black African leaders admire Mugabe and wish they could have the courage to do what he has done in his lifetime. We are not too worried about popularity.”

She added: “If our President is not good enough for Freshlyground, neither must our money be. They must stick to singing and looking good for the stage, they are not politicians. You cannot love our money and disrespect our President. It is just not possible. Well done Immigration. Freshlyground must stay out of Zimbabwe.”

Ms Michelle Nomthandazo asked: “Would you make fun of Madiba (the late former South African President) like that? I do not think so. If it was supposed to be funny then you should have included your people. Do not make your music political. You guys are too good for such underhand marketing gimmicks, respect people even if you do not agree with their values.”

Mr Takesure Chinhara said it was amazing that the people who were calling for change in Zimbabwe were South Africans, yet the Boers were telling them to go to hell in their country.
