Police in Harare have arrested a Clovegate Elevator Company accountant on allegations of defrauding the firm of a cumulative US$13 974 on 22 separate occasions. Godfrey Kadamuto (age not given) has since
appeared before Harare magistrate Mr Reuben Chibanda facing 22 counts of theft.
According to court records, Clovegate entered into a contract of servicing four elevators at Northwold flats in Harare’s Avenues area.
The company charges a monthly fee of US$400 per elevator. It is understood Kadamuto would receive the payment in cash or through Real Time Gross Settlement.
He allegedly collected US$13 974 between December 2011 and last month.
Kadamuto, it is alleged, did not surrender the money to the company but converted it to personal use.
The matter only came to light after Clovegate authorities sought to establish why Northwold Flat Owners’ Association was not paying the monthly fee.
Kadamuto, represented by Mr Arnold Taruvinga of Khanda and Associates Legal Practitioners, was granted US$100 bail.
He is expected to appear for trial this Tuesday.
