MDC-T Buhera Central constituency legislator Mr Tungwara Matimba fails to pay rent

A Zimbabwean based in Australia has accused MDC-T Buhera Central constituency legislator Mr Tungwara Matimba of refusing to pay him more than $9 000 in rentals and rates for his Greendale house which he left under the latter’s custodian.
Mr Matimba owns Property Hope Real Estate Agency. The owner of the house Mr Asher Terrance Mushaurwa left the country in 2000, leaving his property under the custodian of the agency.
The total involved for Mr Mushaurwa’s house Number 1082 Samora Machael Ave in Greendale, which is being rented by a local company as offices is US$9 177.
Mr Matimba said he was in the process of making sure that the bills which were accumulated by a tenant who has since left the property, were cleared.
In an interview on Wednesday, Mr Mushaurwa alleged that there were some irregularities with Mr Matimba’s payments and suspected he could be inflating bills.
“I suspect that (Mr) Matimba has been making irregular payments from day one and contracting dodgy contractors resulting in some inflated bills.
“I came there in 2009 and found the house in a pathetic state. I tried to address the issues with him but as soon as I left, things would revert to his old ways of doing business,” he said.

He said in 2011 he came into the country again and found out that Mr Matimba had converted the rental money to his own use.

“He could not remit rental payments for almost 21 days until I reported at Rhodesville Police Station. He later paid, but out of compassionate I then withdrew the case,” said Mr Mushaurwa.

Mr Mushaurwa alleged Mr Matimba defrauded him of US$1 300 in unpaid rent for September 2012 and another US$1 300 as deposit, US$2 777 for water bills and rates and US$3 800 for Zesa bills all amounting to US$9 177.

“I asked him (Mr Matimba) to account for rental deposits but he could not account for it again.”
Mr Matimba yesterday confirmed he owed Mr Mushaurwa some money, but said the bills and the rates were supposed to have been paid by one of the tenants, a local mining company which left the premises last year.

“We are in the process of clearing these bills and rates,” he said. Mr Matimba said they had agreed with Mr Mushaurwa for rentals to be used to renovate the property and that his company would later reimburse the money.

He said he had no problems in paying him back since he had been managing the property for more than 12 years.
